THE DUST MADE HIS FACE RED AND HE COULD NOT TAKE A PICTURE | Dag Heward-Mills

Bishop Dag Heward-Mills teaches that the highest position any believer can attain is that of a servant, drawing from Jesus' own words in Luke 22:27: 'I am among you as he that serveth.' He illustrates the deadly contrast between true servanthood and hidden pride through a vivid story of a missionary sent to the field who complained it was too hot, too dusty, and that mosquitoes had made his face so red he could not even take a picture for his wife - while another person sent to the same conditions joyfully built a thriving church with thousands of people. He goes on to explain why mission fields around the world stand empty, recounting how an American pastor told him they no longer send missionaries because the cost of maintaining their lifestyle abroad - international schools, upscale housing, annual flights home - is simply too high. He charges pastors, bishops, and every church member never to graduate beyond the level of a servant, warning that when people begin demanding sitting allowances, air conditioning, and recognition, they have already lost the humility that makes real ministry possible.
