7/4/1974 Orioles at Red Sox game action (no sound) Sloppy Boston victim of late Baltimore onslaught

This is a 17-minute video of action from the July 4, 1974 Major League Baseball game between the Baltimore Orioles and the Red Sox in Boston, won by the Orioles, 10-6. It is film, with no sound, from the WCVB Collection, transferred by Northeast Historical Film. We see the Red Sox and Orioles battle fairly evenly through six innings at steamy Fenway Park on the Fourth of July. What we don't see, and it's probably for the best, is the Orioles roughing up Sox starter Luis Tiant for five runs in the seventh and getting to Dick Pole for two in the ninth to win it. After an overall sloppy game by his team, manager Darrell Johnson closed the clubhouse for five minutes to go over fundamentals. Maybe the biggest Boston boo boo was in the sixth. Within 3-2 and with Bernie Carbo on second and Rico Petrocelli on first, Doug Griffin hit an infield single to short (17:22). But instead of having the bases loaded, Carbo ran through third base coach Don Zimmer's stop sign and was out by a mile at the plate. Things really unraveled from there. Box score in comments.
