ABOUT SOLOVEY In Slavic mythology, Solovey the Brigand — Solovey-Razboynik — is the monstrous bandit of the deep forest, half-man, half-bird, who nests in nine ancient oaks along the road to Kyiv. His whistle is a weapon: it bends the trees, tears the grass from the earth and stops the hearts of warriors and horses alike. For thirty years no traveler passed his road alive — until the bogatyr Ilya Muromets rode out to silence him. He is the voice of the wild that hates the road, the old forest's last curse against the world of men.
