Har Chum Pok Sou | Chow Gar Southern Praying Mantis In this training video, Sifu Adam Hansen demonstrates the principle and technique of Har Chum Pok Sou. Har refers to under or underneath. Chum means sinking. Pok Sou refers to the open-hand technique. An important point when understanding Chum is that we are not simply sinking or lowering the physical body. The body maintains its structure, posture, and connection while the energy and power sink through the whole body into the ground. This requires the hands, arms, shoulders, spine, waist, hips, legs, and feet to work as one connected unit. Rather than creating force from an isolated arm movement, the technique develops power through total body connection, internal structure, and intention. This is one of the important principles within Chow Gar Tong Long – Southern Praying Mantis, where external movement and internal power become inseparable. Train the structure. Feel the connection. Sink the energy. Let the whole body become the technique.
