On Tuesday night, Oct 13, a ballistic missile hit the headquarters complex of Saudi Arabia's state oil company in Dhahran, Reuters reports, citing a company source: the top three floors of an office tower were damaged and the building was on fire. The Saudi-led coalition said only fragments of an intercepted missile fell on a residential area. In Riyadh, debris from two intercepted missiles injured four people and damaged 15 homes, and on Wednesday morning residents again reported explosions. The Houthis say their attacks on Saudi airports and oil facilities "would continue in the coming days." Earlier, the Saudi-led coalition struck the al-Sabah fuel station in Sanaa. At the same time, two senior Iranian officials told Reuters that Iran changed its tactics against shipping about ten days ago, partly to influence the US vote: "Just when they think they are getting close to the point where prices will fall, we will push them away from it." A US military official confirmed the change. The Financial Times says attacks near Hormuz were at their most intense of the war in the two weeks to Oct 11, and Brent crude traded above $106 on Wednesday. Trump had said that once the Iran war ends, oil prices would "drop like a rock". The facts are reported with sources; the reading that these two fires tighten an oil noose around Trump before the Nov 3 midterms is my own analysis.
