Join me and Mrs W on holiday in Italy, as we join a group of 12 walkers and our guide, to explore the spectacular Amalfi Coast. Our first adventure takes us along the famous Path of the Gods (Sentiero degli Dei), one of the most stunning walks on the Amalfi Coast. According to local legend, the Greek Gods once passed through this area on their way to rescue Ulysses from the Sirens on the nearby island of Li Galli. Starting at Bomerano, in the hilltop municipality of Agerola, we follow the trail to the village of Nocelle, perched high on the slopes of Monte Peruso. Along the way, the trail offers much more than the spectacular coastal scenery. We pass old shepherds' huts, ancient stone houses and buildings carved into the limestone, giving us a glimpse into the traditional life of the people who have lived among these dramatic hills for generations. After pausing at a kiosk in Nocelle for refreshments (freshly squeezed ice-cold Amalfi Orange and Lemon Granitas), the path leads us down a seemingly endless series of steps into Positano, a beautiful town clinging almost vertically to the cliffs above a sheltered bay. We wander through colourful alleyways, past wisteria-covered walls and designer boutiques, before finally reaching the sea.
