The Neighbor Jesus Chose, Part II: The Dangerous Road - Sunday, August 2, 2026

The road from Jerusalem to Jericho reveals not only the dangers of life but the reality of a broken world and our desperate need for God's compassion. In our last message, Part one of The Neighbor Jesus Chose, we examined the lawyer's question and discovered that Jesus was not merely answering a theological inquiry but was exposing a heart issue. The lawyer wanted to know who qualified as a neighbor but Jesus wanted him to understand what it means to become one. In the parable of the Good Samaritan, every detail, character, and action matters because Jesus does not waste word. The first thing Jesus introduces in this parable is not a priest, a Levite, or a Samaritan. The first thing He introduces is a road. Before we understand the people on the road, we must understand the road itself. The opening phrase, "a Certain Man" is Jesus' way of stripping off labels. Genesis 1:27 says: "So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him." Before any of us obtained any label, we were simply human created in the image of God. By introducing this man without any identity, Jesus was teaching us to see others exactly as they are - humanity made in God's image. The road between Jerusalem and Jericho was notoriously known for danger. Similarly, since Genesis 3, humanity's road became dangerous. Compared to the life God promised Adam and Eve, Since Genesis 3, brokenness, pain, and death entered creation and the road became dangerous for all of us. The road between Jerusalem and Jericho represents the same road you and I are journeying in life today. On our life journey, many of us have been stripped, wounded and left to die just like the robbers did to this man. Many of us carry emotional wounds, relational wounds, spiritual wounds, childhood wounds, church wounds, marriage wounds and family wounds but like Jesus saw this man, He sees every hidden and exposed wound and promises to heal if you surrender every pain and wound to Him.
