“Greater Works Than These”: What Did Jesus Really Mean? - BBD

What did Jesus really mean when He promised His followers would do greater works than He did? In this episode of Back to the Bible Daily, Braden Pedersen explores John 14:12 and unpacks the significance of Jesus' promise to His disciples about the power available to believers through the Holy Spirit. Jesus wasn't promising that prayer in His name guarantees getting whatever we want. Instead, He was preparing His followers for their role in multiplying His kingdom after His ascension. Through the work of the disciples and the early church, thousands came to faith, churches were planted across continents, and Christianity became the largest religion in history. This happened through ordinary people empowered by the Holy Spirit. Read John 14:12 and the surrounding verses to understand Jesus' promise about the Holy Spirit's role in your life. Reflect on how the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead now lives within you as a believer, empowering you to do extraordinary things beyond your job title or earthly status. Respond by recognizing your true identity and value in Christ. Ask God to show you how to live beyond your vocation and spread the gospel with boldness. Reveal this truth to others by sharing how the Holy Spirit empowers believers to accomplish God's purposes and make disciples.
