A 4K walk around Motoyama in Nagoya, Japan, on a sunny Sunday. From the big five-way crossing at Motoyama Station, the walk climbs to Shiroyama Hachimangu — a shrine on the hill where Oda Nobunaga's father once built a castle — then passes quiet neighborhood streets and Nekogahora-dori, and ends at Togan-ji, home of the green Nagoya Great Buddha. Filmed October 18, 2026 This time, you walk with Shin, who has lived in Nagoya for almost 40 years. There is no spoken narration — Shin speaks to you through short English captions on screen. This walk was a viewer request: someone visiting Nagoya in January asked us to walk around Motoyama. So today's goal is to find a giant green Buddha, then walk back to the station. At Shiroyama Hachimangu, families come for Shichi-Go-San, and you can hear gagaku, Japan's traditional court music. On the same hill stand Showa Jukudo, a building with a tower, built almost 100 years ago, and Yoshinden, now a martial arts dojo. Togan-ji was built by Nobunaga's younger brother to honor their father. Walk through Furo-mon, the bell gate, and the Buddha appears — about 10 meters tall, with elephants all around. A note from Shin: in Nagoya dialect, "dera" means "really." That Buddha is dera big.
