Should you save or invest first? Protect bills, known expenses and an emergency reserve, then examine whether any money is truly available for investment risk.
This Philippines edition works through two people with the same savings but different obligations. It also shows why an annual bill's due date matters, explains an illustrative investment loss, and gives a simple check using Philippine SEC and BSP resources.
All dollar figures are made-up US-dollar examples, not typical Philippine incomes, exchange-rate conversions, official benefits or recommended savings amounts. Use your own amounts and payment dates. Invest only when your needs, time horizon and ability to bear losses have been considered. Investments can lose money, and registration does not guarantee returns. General education, not personal investment advice or a product recommendation.
Try one page: current savings; money already needed; monthly amount left after planned costs. Which was harder: payment dates or the reserve calculation? Please share the topic, not account details or private financial amounts.
