Learn how to make traditional Jamaican Ginger Bulla from scratch! In this step-by-step baking tutorial, I'll show you how to prepare homemade Jamaican ginger bulla using freshly grated ginger, brown sugar, molasses, and warm spices. From preparing the ginger-infused sugar mixture to mixing, rolling, cutting, and baking the dough, this recipe brings the delicious flavours of traditional Jamaican baking into your home. These homemade ginger bullas are perfect on their own or paired with classic Tastee cheese, avocado, or margarine. INGREDIENTS Wet Ingredients 100 g brown sugar 40 g molasses (2 tablespoons + 2 teaspoons) 2 tablespoons freshly grated ginger 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract ½ teaspoon rose water 90 ml water (90 g) 30 g butter Molasses Substitute: You can use 1–2 teaspoons of Jamaican browning sauce instead of molasses, primarily to achieve the traditional dark colour. Start with 1 teaspoon and adjust as needed. Browning does not provide the same sweetness or flavour as molasses. Dry Ingredients All-purpose flour Baking powder Baking soda Ground cinnamon Freshly grated nutmeg Salt Add your exact dry ingredient measurements here before publishing so viewers can follow the complete recipe. BAKING INSTRUCTIONS Oven Temperature: 350°F (175°C) Baking Time: 12–15 minutes Dough Thickness: ½ inch (1.25 cm) Oven Rack: Middle position Baking Tip: Avoid overmixing or over-kneading the dough, as this can make your bullas tough. Bake until the centers spring back lightly when pressed, then transfer to a wire rack to cool. ❤️ WELCOME TO LENIQUE’S KITCHEN AND GARDEN Welcome to my kitchen, where I share homemade recipes, traditional Jamaican dishes, baking from scratch, and gardening.
