Farmers urged to take up hybrid coconut

Coconut farmers in Kilifi have started harvesting from the first hybrid coconut trees imported from India and planted in 2019. The hybrid coconut trees take a maximum of 3 years to mature and can produce more than 300 coconut fruits compared to the African tall which takes up to 6 years to mature while producing only about 100 fruits.
