In 2025, Americans bought 41,924 Buick Envisions, and every single one was assembled in China. Add the Lincoln Nautilus, built in Hangzhou, and that is 75,668 Chinese-built SUVs from two American brands in one year. This video explains how GM and Ford ended up building American-badged SUVs in China, why tariffs of 47.5% and 52.5% are now crushing those sales, what the Commerce Department's Connected Vehicle Rule means for model year 2027, and what happens to the Envision and the Nautilus next. THE GARAGE CHECK (takes about two minutes) 1. Find out where your car was built: if the first character of your VIN is L, it was assembled in China. The window sticker and door-jamb label list the final assembly point. 2. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls and write down your connected services and when they expire. 3. Don't panic: the rule targets new vehicles from model year 2027. Repair parts for older cars are exempt. Did you know your Buick or Lincoln was built in China when you bought it?
