If one prays to the BJP, will that mean getting permission to park vehicles in a “No Parking” zone, while devotees visiting the Hanuman Temple are fined immediately by the Mapusa Police for doing the same? Social activist Sanjay Barde has raised concerns about what he says is unequal enforcement of traffic rules in Mapusa. According to Barde, during a function, some vehicles allegedly belonging to BJP supporters were parked in a No Parking zone, causing traffic congestion. When he brought the matter to the attention of the Mapusa Traffic Police Inspector, he alleges that the officer left without listening to his complaint. Traffic rules should apply equally to everyone, regardless of political affiliation, religious identity or social status. If these allegations are accurate, the authorities should explain why different standards appear to have been applied and ensure that traffic regulations are enforced fairly and consistently.
