Countdown (Australia)- Molly Meldrum Interviews DEVO- January 17, 1982

A segment from the long running Australian music TV series Countdown, which aired on the ABC from 1974-1987. This particular segment aired during the Countdown episode which originally aired on January 17, 1982, on the ABC. This clip features an introduction of American band DEVO (Mark and Bob Mothersbaugh, Gerald Casale, Alan Myers- note Bob Casale, or "Bob 2" as he is referred to here, is absent), conducted by Countdown Talent Co-Ordinator Molly Meldrum, dressed in a DEVO t-shirt. The interview begins with Molly asking the band about Bob Casale's absence, and the success of their EP 'DEV-O Live'. Molly then discusses with the band the success of their most recent album 'New Traditionalists', and where they got the concepts for the album from, which Gerald explains. Gerald then proceeds to explain the cover songs that they have recorded, as Molly asks him about recording 'Working In A Coalmine'. Molly also asks the band about their forthcoming Australian tour. Molly also asks Gerald about where they got the idea for their famous 'flower-pot' hats, which Gerald explains is an Aztec design, supposedly to collect mental energy. Molly also asks the band about having an Australian fan club, their next album, TV projects, and their concert presentation. Note: The song clip playing at the start of the segment is DEVO's 'Beautiful World, the song clip playing in the middle of the segment is DEVO's 'Girl U Want', and the song clip playing at the end of the segment is DEVO's 'Freedom Of Choice'.
