On most productions these days, you plan for what you’re going to need, you design it, and then you provision for it, meaning you go get your cameras and your gear. You put the production people in place and you go for it. Afterwards, you check if the show went well, and you see maybe you had too much equipment, so you’ll rent less next time, right?
Instead if you imagined a pure software-based production workflow, if you need a big show, you want a person per media function. But if you have a small show that needs to be very efficient and quick, maybe one person could be enough to drive the whole production. You can adjust quickly because there is more agility.
That’s what’s at the heart of a Dynamic Media Facility (DMF).
François Legrand of CBC/Radio-Canada and Willem Vermost of the EBU catch up with Matt Robbins from KitPlus at IBC 2026 about the vision for DMF, and the latest from the Joint Task Force on the Dynamic Media Facility (JT-DMF), a joint initiative between AMWA and the EBU that is helping define the future of agile, software-defined media facilities.
