Five women were found dead around Ipswich in December 2006. Steve Wright, known as the Suffolk Strangler, was convicted of their murders and sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison. But those five convictions did not reveal the full history of his crimes. In February 2026, Wright admitted kidnapping and murdering 17-year-old Victoria Hall in 1999—seven years before the Ipswich murders. He also admitted attempting to kidnap Emily Doherty the night before Victoria disappeared. This episode follows the original DNA breakthrough, the evidence presented at Wright’s trial, and the investigation that eventually connected him to Victoria’s murder. A survivor’s account, a stalled vehicle inquiry, old petrol-station CCTV and advances in DNA analysis all became part of the case. How had Wright’s car appeared among the original leads? What could the new forensic tests establish? And why did Victoria’s family have to wait so long for an answer? Remembering Tania Nicol, Gemma Adams, Anneli Alderton, Paula Clennell, Annette Nicholls and Victoria Hall.
