When you sign up for a Maverick PCA time trial, you write down your estimated lap time. I wrote 2:17. This is my full first run, Sunday afternoon at Eagles Canyon Raceway, from the warm-up lap through both timed hot laps to the cool-down. The hot laps came in at 2:17.38 and 2:17.40. Same driver, same car, two hundredths apart. I’ve never been that consistent at anything.
The format: four or five cars go out together with a gap between them. You get a warm-up lap to bring the tires and brakes up to temperature, two hot laps, and a cool-down lap to let everything breathe before the pits. No passing. It’s just you, the clock and whatever you wrote on that form.
The car is Skipper, my Racing Yellow 718 Boxster GTS 4.0. It’s driven to the track, not trailered, on the full long counter-clockwise circuit. It was a solo-only day because the instructors were working the PCA Club Race, so the right seat was empty and the pressure was entirely self-inflicted.
