The biggest technical challenge on this monolithic build was managing the negative space between the bird's tail, the curved tree limb, and the pedestal base while carving purely with dedicated carving knives (no gouges or power tools). Precise tip cuts define the curved raptor beak and watchful brow, while layered stop cuts create the shingled texture of feather plumage cascading down the folded wings. The sculpture is brought to life with a classic matte finish (and as always, remember to carve mindfully using a protective thumb guard or cut-resistant glove!).
