On September 1, 2025, Dwayne Johnson cried through a 15-minute standing ovation in Venice. One review called him a potential future Oscar winner. A month later The Smashing Machine opened to $5.9 million, the worst start of his career. Nine months after that, he went back to the safest bet he had: a live-action Moana. This is the story of how The Rock built a man who was never allowed to lose: from "Rocky sucks" in 1996 to the biggest star in the world, the Fast & Furious feud, the Wall Street Journal's fight-scorekeeping report, Black Adam and the DC power play, Red One, Maui, and the one film where he finally chose to lose on purpose. Is his career really over? The numbers say something more complicated. The Red One lateness stories are anonymous claims reported by TheWrap; Amazon called them "ridiculous and false". The WSJ reported a contract fight limit for Jason Statham only, not Johnson.
