In this video you can enjoy the cab ride - train driver's view from Porto Campanhã to Régua in 4K/60 frames per second.
Porto Campanhã station sits on the eastern edge of Porto along the right margin of the Douro River, a hub whose current layout was set in 1872 by engineers Manuel Afonso Espregueira, Pedro Inácio Lopes, and Alexandre Eiffel, and which opened formally on 4 November 1877 alongside the Ponte D. Maria Pia. From its terminus platforms the journey heads east through the Contumil depot area — the main rolling-stock facility for the region — before passing through Ermesinde, where the Linha do Minho diverges north toward Braga and Valença, and the train turns east onto the Douro Line. The GPX track covers 103.4 km, climbing from near river level to around 262 m before descending again to the Douro valley floor.
Through the municipalities of Valongo and Paredes the line follows the Sousa River upstream through a sequence of closely spaced halts, passing the double-track section that ends just before the 1,086-metre Caíde tunnel. At Livração the Tâmega River is soon crossed on a 309-metre bridge, and after the tunnels at Gaviarra and Campainha the train calls at Marco de Canaveses — the outer limit of Porto's suburban electrified network. Beyond here the character of the journey changes entirely: the catenary ends, the valley narrows, and rock-stabilisation works punctuate the single-track alignment descending toward the Douro. Before the railway was built, the river journey between Peso da Régua and Porto by boat took between 6 and 8 days; the Douro Line, whose first section at Régua opened on 15 July 1879, compressed that connection to a matter of hours.
From Pala onward the Douro River comes into view and the line runs close to its bank through Mosteirô, Aregos, and a succession of halts threading between terraced vineyards and the water's edge. The north bank, noted in the script as receiving better insolation, carries the densest concentration of vineyards in the Baixo Corgo sub-region, the coolest and most humid part of the Douro wine zone, known for lighter ruby and tawny Port wines. Régua station, reached after passing through the 342-metre Régua tunnel, opened in 1879 as a provisory terminus and later served as the junction for the Corgo Line, whose first section to Vila Real opened on 12 May 1906 and closed on 25 March 2009. The journey thus moves from a nineteenth-century urban railhead shaped by Eiffel's engineers, through industrialised suburban corridors and forested inland valleys, to arrive at a riverside wine town whose station once anchored two converging lines.
