What is Faith? | Dr. Femi Popoola

What if faith isn’t simply something we reach for when we need healing, provision, a breakthrough, or an answered prayer? What if faith is meant to be our way of life? Today, Pastor Femi reminded us that “the righteous shall live by faith.” Faith isn’t just what we believe—it’s why we do what we do. It is the operating system of a life surrendered to God. Romans 14:23 tells us that “whatever does not proceed from faith is sin.” That means we can’t judge our choices simply by whether they “worked out.” Abraham got a son when he tried to accomplish God’s promise his own way—but a successful result didn’t make it God’s will. The question isn’t only, “Did it work?” The better question is, “Did this proceed from faith in God?” And faith doesn’t mean we never experience fear. When fear comes, we can choose where we place our trust: “When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.” Faith doesn’t have to erase every uncomfortable feeling—it refuses to let fear have the final word. Every decision reveals what or whom we are trusting. Are we trusting ourselves? Our past experiences? Our jobs? Other people? Our own plans? Or are we trusting the God who already sees the destination? We have never lived tomorrow—but God is already there. Maybe one of the most powerful prayers we can pray is: “God, deliver me from what I want when what I want is not what You want for me.” His plans are greater than ours. His wisdom sees farther than ours. And when we surrender our lives to Him, we can trust Him with the road ahead. Faith says, “God, You know where I’m going. You know how to get me there. I surrender the direction of my life to You.” So this week, ask yourself: What have I been putting my faith in?
