Learn how to evaluate early years activities systematically and use your findings to improve practice. This lesson introduces a five-step process using a small-group block-building activity as an example. You will explore how to observe children’s interactions, body language, emotions, engagement, independence and responses to challenge. It then explains how to assess outcomes against the original learning objectives, using specific evidence from individual and group experiences. The lesson also highlights the value of gathering feedback from children and colleagues, including verbal responses, non-verbal cues and professional discussion. You will consider how to reflect on your own role, including whether your facilitation supported or interrupted children’s learning. Finally, the lesson explains how to document successes, challenges and evidence in planning records or reflective journals. Together, these steps help practitioners recognise children’s progress, identify areas for adjustment and make more informed decisions about future learning experiences.
