Explore how the early years planning cycle supports each child’s individual learning journey. This lesson explains how practitioners observe children’s behaviour, interests, communication and development, then assess and record meaningful evidence. You will see how observations inform realistic, purposeful objectives linked to the EYFS, as well as responsive activities such as collaborative clay work and storytelling. The lesson also considers how safe, accessible and inclusive environments encourage children to explore, make choices and learn through play. Family contributions are highlighted as an important part of building a fuller picture of a child’s development. Finally, discover why planning must remain flexible and how reviewing children’s engagement, listening to their views and reflecting with colleagues can improve future practice. The cycle is continuous: observe, assess and record; plan objectives and experiences; prepare the environment; then review and reflect to shape the next steps.
