Music of Dharwad - Jayateerth Mevundi sings Bhagyada Lakshmi Baaramma

Jayateerth Mevundi is an enormously talented vocalist from Uttara Karnataka. Born in Hubli in the year 1972, Jayateerth was initiated into music by his mother. His formal tutelage began under Pt Arjunsa Nakod, a doyen of the old school Gwalior gayaki. Since 1995 he has continued his training under Pt Shripati Padigar, a disciple of the illustrious Pt Bhimsen Joshi. The inspiration and influence of the late Kirana legend is quite discernible in his singing. Jayateerth is a popular vocalist and has performed in practically every prestigious music festival in India. His vigorous and imaginative vocalism has won him many awards and accolades. Here he sings Bhagyada Lakshmi Baaramma, the well known pada by Shri Purandara Dasaru that was launched into musical stratosphere by Pt Bhimsen Joshi. Accompanying him are Ravindra Katoti on harmonium and Jagadeesh Kurtakoti on tabla.
