The highlight was visiting the Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze and seeing Michelangelo’s original David in person. Its scale, detail and presence are difficult to appreciate until you are standing directly in front of it—an unforgettable experience. We continued on foot through Florence, admiring its historic streets, remarkable architecture and extraordinary art before reaching the iconic Ponte Vecchio. With masterpieces and history around almost every corner, Florence is a city made for exploring slowly.
