“The words should be carefully learned by heart, for they will be understood better as years pass.” — C. H. Spurgeon
In October 1855, at only twenty-one years old, Charles Haddon Spurgeon published A Puritan Catechism for his church and congregation at New Park Street Chapel in London. He believed that “the use of a good Catechism in all our families will be a great safeguard against the increasing errors of the times.”
Drawing from the Westminster Assembly’s Catechism and the Baptist Catechism, Spurgeon designed this little manual to give Christian families a clear, memorable foundation in biblical doctrine. His conviction remained with him throughout his ministry; years later, he would write that “the study of a good Scriptural catechism is of infinite value to our children.”
This Scripture Songbook setting covers Question 4 and its KJV proof texts.
