BELGRADE, 1456. Three years after the fall of Constantinople, the armies of Mehmed II stood before the walls of Belgrade. Europe watched. Churches prayed. Bells rang. And Belgrade stood. Lux de Lumine is an original Latin sacred composition inspired by the Battle of Belgrade, John Hunyadi, Saint John of Capistrano, and the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord. But this is not ultimately a hymn to military victory. The battle leads us back to Mount Tabor. From darkness to light. From fear to faith. From battle to mystery. From victory to Christ. Non gladius mundum transfigurat. Christus mundum transfigurat. The sword does not transfigure the world. Christ transfigures the world. Musically, the piece draws inspiration from Gregorian chant, Renaissance Catholic polyphony, the sacred atmosphere associated with composers such as Thomas Tallis, cathedral organ, choral writing, and the great tradition of Latin Christian hymnody. May this hymn be a reminder that kingdoms rise and fall, armies pass away, and human glory fades — but the Light remains. Lux de Lumine. Lux super tenebras. #Belgrade1456 #LuxDeLumine #LatinHymn #CatholicMusic #SacredMusic #GregorianChant #Transfiguration
