About an hour by train from Osaka-Umeda, 30 minutes from Sannomiya. Arima is one of very few places that belongs to both of Japan's classic lists: the three oldest springs (with Dogo and Shirahama) and the three great springs (with Kusatsu and Gero). It appears in the Nihon Shoki, Japan's oldest official history, which records visits by seventh-century emperors — over 1,300 years of record. Toyotomi Hideyoshi loved this water, came repeatedly, and built a bathing palace here. There are two waters: ・Kinsen (gold) — hot, heavy in iron and salt, turning red-brown in the air. ・Ginsen (silver) — clear carbonated and radium springs. It sits on the far side of Mt.
