In this video, I strongly welcome the historic decision made by the Gelug International Foundation to bar members of the Sangha community from contesting Tibetan elections—whether for Sikyong (President) or Chitue (Parliamentarian)—while actively affiliated with any Gelug monastery or nunnery. Under this new resolution, any monk or nun wishing to run for political office must first formally resign from the Sangha community. I dive deep into the gist of their comprehensive 11-page background document, explaining exactly how they unanimously passed these two historic resolutions. The decision centers around two vital agendas: 1. Protecting the sacred image and legacy of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. 2. Safeguarding the Tibetan cause and restoring the tarnished image of the Sangha community. After breaking down the details of this monastic decree, I share my personal perspective on why this shift toward a secular democracy is essential for our movement. Finally, I shed light on how we can counter potential negative smear campaigns. Anti-Tibet and anti-Dalai Lama factions—likely backed and paid by the CCP—will undoubtedly try to weaponize this decision in the name of "democracy" to create internal division. I explain how we can stand united and push back against this propaganda. If you support the preservation of our monastic integrity and the evolution of Tibetan democracy, please like, comment, and subscribe! Thanks.
