Bishop Dag Heward-Mills asks a question that sticks with you: if you disappeared from church, would anyone even notice? He points to Philemon's Onesimus, once useless, now profitable, and tells how it took him nearly three years to recover all the work his late colleague's wife used to quietly do. Some people, he says, are missed like a movie without Denzel Washington. Others are like a shaved beard, gone and forgotten in seconds. Then he tells of a medical school classmate who died in his room and wasn't found for four days, until the smell gave it away, and turns it into a challenge: how many days would it take to discover you? He closes reading Titus 1:1 on being a servant of God above every other title, promising the devoted will be the ones laughing last.
