Life After Conflict: Women Rebuilding Through Gardening, Healing & Livelihood Support

What happens when healing is matched with opportunity? For many women in Northeastern Nigeria, the scars of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (CRSV) are invisible but deeply felt. Years of trauma, displacement, and uncertainty left many without livelihoods or hope for the future. Through the Survivor-Led Support for Victims of CRSV in Northeastern Nigeria Project, the Grassroots Researchers Association (GRA), in partnership with the Zaman Lafiya Initiative, is helping survivors reclaim their lives through Smart Home Gardening, thanks to funding from ‪@MukwegeFoundation‬ More than a gardening project, this initiative equips women with practical agricultural skills to grow nutritious food, earn sustainable incomes, and regain confidence. Alongside livelihood support, the project has also provided Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), helping survivors on their journey toward healing, dignity, and economic independence. Every garden planted represents more than vegetables—it represents resilience. Every harvest is a symbol of renewed hope. When women heal, families recover.
