About this Recording The bansuri carries the melody throughout, moving in long phrases with meend and gamak, the sliding and shaking ornaments that give Indian classical playing its particular voice. About the Bansuri The bansuri is a side blown bamboo flute, six or seven finger holes, no keys and no mechanism. Every note is shaped by the fingers and the breath, which is why the instrument slides between pitches rather than stepping cleanly from one to the next.
