Ladies and gentlemen, Muhoozi Kainerugaba thought he could distract Ugandans with other statements and make everyone forget that speech he delivered in Mbale three years ago. Unfortunately for him, the internet has a longer memory than a government spokesperson!
That old speech has resurfaced, and the CDF is trending again for all the wrong reasons. People are replaying the clip, mimicking his delivery and laughing at the moments when he appeared to struggle to string his sentences together.
The man commands an army, ladies and gentlemen, but in that video, some viewers are wondering whether the sentences themselves had refused to take orders!
And just when Muhoozi needed the internet to move on, Bobi Wine arrived with another serving of humiliation. He joked on X that following Muhoozi’s “powerful speech” in Mbale, the Bamasaba had given him a Gishu name: Wamboga! The nickname has caught fire online, with people associating it with boga, meaning cabbage.
Imagine spending years building a reputation as a powerful general, only for social media to give you a vegetable-based rebrand!
FROM GENERAL MUHOOZI TO WAMBOGA: THE MOST UNEXPECTED DEMOTION IN INTERNET HISTORY!
And the memes? My goodness! People are recreating the speech, imitating his expressions and sticking fake moustaches above their lips to resemble him. Some of these videos are so funny that you may need to watch them twice—once for the joke and again to recover!
At this point, I don't know whether Muhoozi needs a spokesperson, a speechwriter or a cabbage farmer to manage this crisis!
But jokes aside, there is a serious political lesson here. You can command soldiers, issue orders and surround yourself with people who address you by your rank. But you cannot command the internet to respect you, and you certainly cannot order people to find you impressive.
The more a powerful figure tries to project fear, the more significant it becomes when ordinary people discover they can laugh at that figure without permission.
Ladies and gentlemen, Muhoozi may command the army, but on social media, Wamboga is facing an army of memes—and not even the UPDF has enough troops to arrest them all!
And if that Mbale speech resurfaces again in another three years, I suspect the cabbage will still be fresh!
