Stribog The Measure of the Wind | Slavic Wind Folk | Velesa Ep. 17

Two winds receive two tasks from Stribog. A boat has waited three days on a motionless river, while dry rye fields wait for rain. Stribog opens the roads of the winds: one fills the sail, the other gathers clouds above the fields. But when the second wind forgets its limits and reaches the village, Stribog calls it back. By nightfall, the boat has reached the shore, rain has crossed the fields, and the two tired winds sleep among the pines and birches. This song presents Stribog not simply as the god of wind, but as the keeper of its direction, purpose and measure. Wind can carry a boat and bring rain—but without restraint, the same force can bend crops, strike doors and break a mast. Musically, Episode 17 combines Slavic wind-folk with atmospheric post-folk: asymmetric 7/8 verses open into a melodic 4/4 chorus, led by Stribog’s clear, high dramatic tenor. Gudok, wooden wind instruments and ritual frame drum form the acoustic ensemble. Stribog is the only singer; the accompanying musicians remain entirely instrumental.
