A truck, a compact furnace, stacks of sand moulds, and a pot-repair craft practiced for forty years. The roadside craftsman first examines the damaged aluminum pot and prepares a mould around the area that needs rebuilding. Scrap aluminum is melted in the furnace, then the bright molten metal is carefully poured into the mould. After cooling, the repaired section is uncovered, trimmed, polished, and checked before the pot can return to everyday use. Before replacing household items became commonplace, damaged cookware was often repaired and used again. Traveling pot repairers carried their tools from place to place, extending the working life of ordinary kitchenware through practical knowledge of heat, metal, and moulding.
