This is my third read from the Walter Scott Prize Longlist. I debated whether this was a 4 star or 5 star read based solely on my own personal opinion. While I wanted a bit more from the story at the end, I couldn't ignore the poignant but touching interactions between the two main characters, and the beautiful artistic prose that accompanies their journey. While verging on the edge of literary, the novel is highly accessible and enjoyable, and its short sharp chapters amplify the pace of the story telling. Clear is a tale of two men on a journey of self discovery while experiencing new types of isolation. Ivar has been alone for 2 decades and is now having to deal with his emotions in the constant presence of another being, while John is experiencing remoteness for the first time. Both men question their pasts and what that means for their futures. I really enjoyed 'Clear' for its beautiful language and invoking story. Let me know what you thought of the novel, and any other Walter Scott Prize longlist books.
