This only came first because I decided to go for the tempest crystal first. This stage overall started really strong, probably the strongest, but then had some of the worst levels in this entire game. Butterfly, dotkid, and black are my 3 least favorite levels in all of the stages excluding secret entrances, and having emperor at the end didn't help very much. Technically, boss rush is included in stage 4, which is where I got the thumbnail from, but I didn't really want to add the bosses again. There are no secret achievements in this stage, so I'll briefly describe my experience from what I can remember.
Even on rebeat, this stage was pretty rough. Having to replay butterfly B, which is my least favorite needle in the entire game, was pretty rough, but there's plenty more that made this annoying. Excursion, secret 4 save 4, dotkid, and black were not fun nor quick to rebeat, but I did beat them much faster than the first time, and seeing my improvement in a measurable state was pretty cool, although it didn't feel as great as the other stages. Most of the crystals went pretty well, but tempest and the emperor crystals are some of the hardest base game crystals to get in the game, which each took multiple hours.
I first went for the emperor b crystal, but it didn't feel too bad to play. The nigh double diamond was pretty tough, but the crystal grab was pretty satisfying. The double diagonal was really chokeable, so of course I died there a couple of times (I think twice after getting the crystal).
The second crystal was much more annoying, in emperor C. The main problem was the length, and the multiple trolls that actually make it harder instead of being just a nuisance. The original room was already annoying enough to play, so having to replay it with additional early and later gameplay did not feel great to say the least. The corner in the last room also unfortunately got me once, but thankfully its not close to the difficulty of the first room, which made it manageable.
Last was the tempest crystal, which some regard as the hardest base game crystal in the game. It did take me 8 hours to get, but it really isn't as bad as it seems. There are a lot of strategies that you can use to mitigate the hardest parts of the crystal, which you can see in the video. Lots of it is just developing some sort of muscle memory, especially for the blind diagonal that exists for some reason. Save 3 becomes much easier with the right strategies, which was easily the most inconsistent save in my initial playthrough and my rebeat. The real hard part is grabbing the crystal itself, where you can either trust that you held the right amount to perfectly align yourself with the gap, or try to jump back and forth until you are ready to jump, which comes at the risk of messing it up and not even getting that chance, which happened to me a lot. My worst death was easily my first time past save 2, where I fluked up until the very last double jump, where I seemingly forgot to double jump at the end, which resulted in me taking an extra 3 hours just to get it.
After this stage comes the more well known and more original K3 content, and the shift from the end of this stage to stage 5 is massive and easily seen, so its a bit unfortunate that this stage didn't really feel as if it lived up to its potential, but now I never have to play it again (until I do the goldens but who knows when that'll happen).
Next is whenever I get the guy tower crystal, where I can upload the stage 3 clear, and then it'll just be 2 more steps until I finally enter the extra stage.
