Ghana’s 2026 BECE results and SHS placement exercise have sparked a major conversation about the state of education in the country. 🇬🇭📚
In this episode of Mogul Talks, we take a closer look at the concerns surrounding the 2026 BECE results, SHS placement, school selection and the wider Ghanaian education system.
The 2026 BECE results were released in July, followed by the 2026/2027 Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) results in September. While thousands of students secured placements, parents and candidates have also reported challenges involving school choices, programmes, residential status and the placement resolution process.
The Ghana Education Service has maintained that there is sufficient capacity across the second-cycle system and says the biggest pressure is the high demand for Category A schools. Meanwhile, other stakeholders have raised concerns about grading, inequality between schools and whether the current system gives students from different backgrounds a fair opportunity.
🔥 In this episode, we discuss:
What do the 2026 BECE results tell us about basic education in Ghana?
Why are some students struggling academically?
Are schools adequately preparing students for the BECE?
The controversy surrounding BECE grading
Should we blame students, teachers, parents, schools or the education system?
Why are some students struggling to get their preferred SHS placement?
Category A schools and the huge demand for limited spaces
Boarding vs day placement concerns
School selection and the new placement approach
Are Ghanaian students being given equal opportunities?
What should government do differently?
What role should parents and teachers play?
How can Ghana improve basic education?
The bigger question is:
👉🏾 Are Ghana’s BECE results and SHS placement problems symptoms of a much deeper problem within the education system?
💬 Join the conversation:
What do you think is the biggest problem with Ghana’s education system?
Is it students, teachers, parents, schools, government, the examination system or a combination of all of them?
