PART 2: Why Did My Wife Want This 62 Year Old Boat? Was This A Mistake?

PART 2 of the $100 Sears boat restoration! In the first episode, I went and picked up this 62-year-old Sears runabout, brought it back to the shop, pulled the deck off and got it ready to come apart. This time, I find out what I'm really dealing with. I started digging into the transom and quickly discovered just how rotten this little boat really was. From there I tore into the floor, removed the rotten plywood and stringers, and found an incredible amount of rot — along with a LOT of trapped water. Once everything was torn out and dried out, it was time to start getting this old hull ready to go back together. I made a trip to Boat Outfitters to pick up the Coosa board, epoxy and fiberglass I'll be using to rebuild the structure, then media blasted and ground the inside of the hull to get down to clean fiberglass. By the end of this episode, 62 years of rotten wood, water and questionable repairs are finally gone — and we're ready to start putting this little boat back together.
