For almost all of human history, nobody had soap the way we do today — no body wash, no shampoo, no lather. And in a world with no antibiotics, being dirty could actually kill you. So how did ancient humans stay clean without soap?
In this video we break down the real toolkit they used instead: olive oil and the bronze strigil, Egyptian natron, ash-and-fat lye soap, plants that foam on their own like soapwort, exfoliating sand and clay, chewing sticks for teeth — and yes, even urine. Then we reveal the twist most people never hear: soap wasn't originally for washing bodies at all, and modern skin science suggests the 'primitive' way may have been better for your skin.
