Motorcycle Adventure Through France 🇫🇷 | Lost on the Way to Le Mans | Day 7

🇫🇷 THE FRENCH ADVENTURE | DAY 7 — SARLAT TO LE MANS What should have been a straightforward motorway ride across France turned into something rather more adventurous, thanks to a satnav with a questionable sense of direction! After a fantastic few days exploring the Dordogne, it's time to leave our accommodation at Les Chalets du Périgord near Sarlat-la-Canéda and head north towards Le Mans. Before leaving, we discover that we've apparently been pronouncing Le Mans incorrectly all our lives. A conversation with our French host provides an unexpected lesson in pronunciation! 🏍️ ON THE ROAD Our journey begins on the beautiful roads of the Dordogne, passing historic châteaux and the remarkable Maison Forte de Reignac, a fortified house built directly into a limestone cliff. The early morning mist makes for some atmospheric riding as we follow the rivers and valleys towards the A89 motorway. Eventually, we reach the autoroute, where my Emovis toll tag proves its worth. While James has to deal with tickets, gloves and toll barriers, I simply sail through. Smug? Possibly. Convenient? Absolutely. With the motorway miles disappearing beneath our wheels, everything seems to be going according to plan. Until the satnav decides it knows a shortcut. What starts as a narrow country lane soon becomes a gravel track in the middle of nowhere. Now, I'm well aware that the Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro is an adventure motorcycle, but there's a considerable difference between being capable of riding off-road and actually wanting to! Especially when you're fully loaded, running road-biased tyres and have a hotel waiting several hours away. Apparently, the satnav had other plans. 🏁 ARRIVING IN LE MANS Eventually, we find our way back onto the motorway and continue north to Le Mans, home of the legendary 24-hour endurance race. After getting the bikes safely parked in the hotel's underground garage, we head out to explore the city. There's time to admire the city's tram network, visit a memorial to French soldiers who served in North Africa and appreciate the Art Deco-inspired interior of our hotel, Le Charleston. And naturally, no visit to France would be complete without some traditional French food. So, with another day's riding ahead, I make the sensible decision to have a dozen escargots followed by moules-frites at Le Globe.
