Reflecting on 15 Years of Indonesia's National Child Care Standards

In 2011, the Government of Indonesia enacted Minister of Social Affairs Regulation No. 30/HUK/2011 on the National Standards for the Care of Children in Child Welfare Institutions (SNPA). The regulation marked an important step in strengthening Indonesia’s child protection system by promoting child rights, the best interests of the child, and family-based care. After 15 years of implementation, significant challenges remain, including violence, neglect, exploitation, inappropriate institutionalization, and inconsistent implementation of care standards across regions and institutions.While the policy framework is in place, ensuring its effective implementation remains an ongoing challenge. In response to these concerns, Yayasan Westerlaken Alliance Indonesia (YWAI), with the support of the Westerlaken Foundation, initiated this International Webinar as part of its commitment to child protection and family-based care. The webinar aims to reflect on the implementation of the SNPA, discuss remaining challenges, and explore opportunities for strengthening its implementation moving forward.
