Since I couldn't catch a sufficiently on-time Empire Builder out of Tomah I drove down to Harvard, IL to catch Metra out of their furthest-flung station! The old Chicago & Northwestern corridor line that forms Metra's UP-NW line has been getting folks around the northwest corner of Chicagoland for a century & then some. Today we're joining locals on their way into the center of the city, interjecting our cross country trip into a packed commuter train with plenty of locals.
