In this lesson, parents will learn how to: • Recognise and regulate their own emotions before responding • Understand the feelings and needs behind a child’s behaviour • Listen to understand—not merely to correct • Validate emotions while maintaining healthy boundaries • Communicate expectations clearly and respectfully • Use tone, words and body language more intentionally • Handle disagreements without shouting, shaming or withdrawing • Repair the relationship after conflict or misunderstanding • Model empathy, accountability and respectful communication • Create regular opportunities for meaningful family conversations Emotionally intelligent parenting does not mean avoiding discipline, accepting every behaviour or never becoming upset. It means becoming aware of emotions, managing them responsibly and responding in ways that teach rather than wound. Children learn communication from the atmosphere of the home. They notice how parents speak, listen, disagree, apologise and reconnect. Every conversation becomes an opportunity to model the emotional and relational skills children will carry into adulthood.
