"God is with us!" - Old Ruthenian Battle Hymn

performance: Chorea Kozatska A Christian prayer song, an ancient battle hymn, and a simple chant for the Orthodox. The prayer is based on words from various places in the book of Isaiah. According to Ukrainian tradition, this song was sung by Rus' warriors before a battle, in particular in the Battle of the Kalka River in 1223. The principalities that took part in the battle are shown on the map. In the 1940s, this song was sung by Ukrainian diaspora Greek Catholics when the Soviet Union was destroying the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Western Ukraine and merging it into the pro-government Russian Orthodox Church. The Old Testament word goyim is translated both as gentiles and nations in English translations of the Bible, so I chose the latter.
