What Does the Bible Say About BLESSING Your House? (Explained)

Every Saturday of my childhood, my mother blessed our whole house - and I did not know she was doing it, because she never stopped moving. There was no ceremony, mija. Nobody was called into a circle. She had a rag over her shoulder and a bucket, and she went room by room the way she did every Saturday of her life, and somewhere in the middle of the wiping I would hear her talking. Not to me. Not loud. At the boys' doorframe: Señor, cuida a mis hijos. In the kitchen: gracias por la comida en esta mesa. At the front door, always the front door, both hands flat on the frame for one second on her way past. I thought she was muttering. I thought it was the sound old houses make. Now, if you go looking for how to bless your home, you will find a wall of videos that all sound the same. Leave this playing over your home. A powerful prayer to CLEANSE your house. Evil-destroying prayer. Warfare prayers for your property. Dark music, urgent voices, and underneath all of it the same quiet suggestion: that something is wrong with your house, that there is a specific set of words that will fix it, and that if you do not say them you are leaving your family exposed. I am not going to do that to you in your own home. But I am also not going to tell you that blessing your house is nonsense - because it is NOT, and Jesus Christ Himself handed His disciples a house blessing and told them to use it. Both things are true, and almost nobody says them in the same video. In this episode of The Mexican Mother's Bible, Bertha gives the honest half first: • There is no formula. "Do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words." (Matthew 6:7) - that IS the definition of a magic formula, and Jesus put it on the wrong side of the line. • The Name is not a spell. Read what happened to the seven sons of Sceva when they tried to borrow it like a wrench: "Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you?" (Acts 19:13-16) • And your house is not cursed. Not the previous owner, not the land, not an object in the garage. "Nothing in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God." (Romans 8:38-39) Nothing in all creation includes your address. Then the other half, which is bigger than the people selling you fear ever told you: • Jesus gave His followers a house blessing as their FIRST instruction on entering a home: "When you enter a house, first say, 'Peace to this house.'" And then - "your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you." (Luke 10:5-6) He speaks about a spoken blessing like something with weight. • God has always come back to the doorway of an ordinary home - the blood on the doorframes in Exodus 12, His words on the doorframes in Deuteronomy 6:9. • And the truest house blessing in the Book is not a prayer at all. It is a decision said out loud: "As for me and my household, we will serve the LORD." (Joshua 24:15) Then she teaches the way her mother actually did it - six rooms and a rag, four minutes, no ceremony, nothing bought, nobody else present. Including the stop everybody skips: the place of the worry. Every house has one. And she holds back the ending - what a blessed house actually IS, which is not the house. Stay to the finish. "Today salvation has come to this house." - Luke 19:9 💛 A gentle word for the one asking about the house where something bad actually happened: what needs healing is not the drywall. Pray in that room, out loud, and take your time in there - but do not go looking for a residue in the plaster.
