PAUSE D'ART / ARTBREAK LUCASI KIATAINAQ

A series of 6 artistically and culturally diverse short films take the Visual Arts Centre's internationally-renowned training programmes outside its walls for the first time in its near 80-year history. A self-taught photographer from Kangiqsujuaq, Lucasi Kiatainaq has a unique way of using photography to share his voice. As of today, most of the photography of Nunavik was taken by non-Inuk persons and so, offering an Inuk vision, Lucasi's photography of this place is highly important. One of five artists participating in a curated exhibition by fellow Inuk visual artist Asinnajaq, his photos have already been featured by Air Inuit and he is currently working on a series of images (one for each season of the year) for an upcoming exhibition in Kangirsujuaq in collaboration with the Avataq Cultural Centre.
