I left Salmon, Idaho, and followed US Route 93 north along the Salmon River, climbing to Lost Trail Pass and crossing into Montana. From there the road opens into the Bitterroot Valley, with mountains on both sides, running through Darby and Hamilton before reaching Missoula.
