Sous-Bois Series I - Chapter One by Amber Veil & Discipline

SOUS-BOIS'* series number one (summer) will take form as a multi-track EP, with two additional tracks/chapters still to be revealed, where each will be accompanied by its own original film, conceived, shot, directed, and edited in close correlation with the music. Rather than creating visuals to illustrate finished tracks, we approach SOUS-BOIS* as one symbiotic body of work. Music, field recordings, cinematic footage, macro imagery, and organic textures are developed in dialogue with one another, allowing each chapter to exist somewhere between an EP, a series of short films, and a sensory exploration of our favorite topographies: dense woodlands and the deep understory. Our ambition is to create one EP in rhythm with the changing seasons. Because SOUS-BOIS* is deeply rooted in the earth's ecology, we want the music and its visual language to evolve alongside its colors; its textures; its flora and fauna; its light and atmosphere morphing over time. Through this seasonal cycle, we want to ground the project in its physical terrain and build an evolving audiovisual ecosystem where each chapter reveals a different facet of the same biome. *In French, Sous-Bois refers to the undergrowth: the dense, shadowed world beneath the forest canopy. It is a space of decomposition and renewal, where roots, fungi, plants and decaying matter continuously transform into one another.
